Itupeva House by UNA MUNIZVIEGAS

After eight years, I once again had the pleasure of collaborating with Cristiane Muniz and Fernando Viegas, the principals of UNA MUNIZVIEGAS—an architecture practice I hold in the highest regard. In April 2025, I photographed their Casa Itupeva project, joined by photographer Rodrigo Fonseca, who handled drone operations.

The house has a unique quality that shaped the entire shoot. From the street, it presents itself with discretion; pavilion-like, self-contained, and seemingly isolated, with a timber-structure volume clad in metal that houses the social areas, kitchen, and a bedroom. However, this volume conceals a spacious lower floor seamlessly embedded into the natural slope. This second core, containing additional bedrooms, service areas, and the pool itself, was almost invisible to my camera, but revealed itself through the drone’s flight.

Special attention was also given to documenting the landscaping, designed by Gabriella Ornaghi and Bianca Vasoni, who, in addition to the plantings, took care of the placement and movement of the enormous stones that were already on the site.

Depois de oito anos, eu volto a colaborar com a Cristiane Muniz e o Fernando Viegas, titulares do UNA MUNIZVIEGAS, escritório de arquitetura que tenho imensa admiração. Realizei o ensaio em abril de 2025, em companhia do fotógrafo Rodrigo Fonseca, que ficou a cargo da operação do drone.

O projeto da Casa Itupeva tem uma particularidade que deu a dinâmica do ensaio. Da rua ela aparece de forma discreta, pavilhonar e isolada, com um volume em estrutura de madeira e fechamento metálico que abriga as áreas sociais, cozinha e um dormitório. No entanto, este volume oculta um amplo andar inferior “encaixado" na topografia. Este segundo núcleo, que abriga dormitórios, áreas de serviço e a própria piscina, era quase invisível à minha câmera, mas se revelavam a partir do vôo do drone.

Houve também atenção ao registro do paisagismo, a cargo de Gabriella Ornaghi e Bianca Vasoni, que além do plantio vegetal cuidaram do posicionamento e movimento de enormes pedras que existiam no local.
